Political Philosophy

The Political Philosophy Program at Collegium Civitas is based on a system of individual academic tuition which enables students to study directly under their chosen mentor throughout their course of study.

The Program was developed in close co-operation with the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Its design follows the assumption that philosophical reflection will grow in importance as a means of contributing to modern public life, hence the program emphasis on political philosophy. With this goal in mind, students have the opportunity to participate in workshops and to develop practical interpersonal and discussion skills. While emphasizing the "philosophy as practice" approach, traditional philosophical disciplines such as epistemology, ontology, ethics, aesthetics and the history of philosophy are also central aspects of the Program.

The Program Director is Professor Tadeusz Gadacz, one of the most accomplished contemporary Polish philosophers. He is the recipient of the President of Warsaw Award for Best Academic Teacher and is the editor of the Encyclopedia of Religion and of the Encyclopedia of PWN Polish Science Publishers. Professors Agata Bielik-Robson, Paweł Dybel, Robert Piłat and other distinguished philosophers are members of the Program faculty.

The Program is formally a specialization within the Department of Political Science but enjoys an autonomous status.

The Program grants BA and MA degrees (the latter within the Individual Program of Studies).
